The construction of the new Abbey of St. Walburga in Virginia Dale, CO brings a contemplative tradition dating back to the 7th century into alignment with the realities of sustaining such a lifestyle in the contemporary world. In keeping with the Benedictine way of life, the program called for simplicity and economy in the design of spaces and use of materials.  The use of Rastra Block panels utilized recycled polystyrene to form thick, highly insulated walls out of waste products.  The award winning results provide a spiritual space of comfort and retreat to the worshipers.
