Eagle Rock School

Eagle Rock School

Client: American Honda Education Corporation, Estes Park, CO

The Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center, located on a 640-acre site near Rocky Mountain National Park, combines a non-profit residential high school for at-risk teens with learning opportunities in a pedagogy of experiential education. Eagle Rock was planned as a pedestrian learning village arranged to intertwine events and structures with meadows and mountains.  One key issue in the design of Eagle Rock was to give physical expression to the school's ethic of environmental stewardship through maximum site preservation with minimal impact; energy and resource efficiency via passive solar, photovoltaics and high insulation; low visual impact and environmental analysis. It is a place of interaction and exchange; inquiry and discovery.
