Barrett Studio architects is a highly motivated professional design group dedicated to the practice of architecture, community & urban design, and interiors.  Our approach to design is ‘wholistic’, which is to say that we view the environment as a totality.  The passion translates to viewing a project from the perspective of a ‘zoom lens’.  This ecologically oriented perspective explores the relationships involved in a  project, the interconnections that influence design decisions, and the opportunities to produce projects of meaning, excellence, and always, beauty.

To achieve our objectives, we must have a profound and thoughtful understanding of both the natural world, and the cultural context that we are designing in.  We pursue this awareness first by being good listeners.  Only through investigation, and what might be termed as ‘deep listening’, can the nature of a design problem be uncovered, and the potential for fresh thinking and creative synthesis be realized.  This method is suited to projects of all scales, as each project is approached in an individual and listening oriented path.

More than ever, this process cannot be the isolated realm of the expert.  It is our experience that meaningful solutions that will stand the test of time are the result of co-creativity. Through the rigors of an integrated team approach,  we find both the joy in making, and the satisfaction of being a part of something larger than ourselves.  With each project, we first create a process that uniquely considers the potentials of the site, the climate, the client, the use, and of course, the budget.  The tangible results are the product of passion, communication, creativity, integrity, and commitment to see an idea through.  This is what we do.  This is who we are.
