Modern Mountain Home

Boulder, Colorado

Set into a rocky ridge above Boulder, the Modern Mountain Home’s clean modern lines and flat roof blend with, rather than dominate, the spine of the landscape.  Stepping down the hillside, the house’s several outdoor rooms serve as transition spaces for the indoor nodes of living, playing, working, and relaxing.  The house has been designed to incorporate Cempo ICF walls as well as closed cell spray foam roof insulation for energy efficiency.  Passive solar allows the south facing glazing to prevent overheating in the summer while allowing the sun into the home in the winter.  This system is complimented by roof-mounted solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, which provide much of the required energy for heating and cooling.
