The Full Circle Retreat Center is a place for remembering and healing. The deep spiritual mission of Full Circle is balanced with a joyful zest for life, which Barrett Studio wanted to match in the architectural design. Formal cues were taken from the ancient West African Akan symbol “Abode Santaan,” which depicts the totality of the universe from a spiritual and humanistic perspective.
The metaphysical connection is joined by a strong physical and historical connection: perched on a bluff, the center overlooks the ocean and two former slave dungeons. The open, free structures employ bamboo trusses and sustainable design approaches to create a dramatic form using readily available local materials & building techniques.
