Wildflower Barns
Boulder, Colorado
Grounded in rolling hills, with a subdued material palette harmonizing with the site’s indigenous plants and rocks, these functional agricultural buildings express a love of the land and a celebration of the barn as an American icon. Distinguished from a prevailing “tuff-shed” mentality, these barns update a classic interpretation of an historic archetype with modern detailing and sustainable measures such as locally sourced & recycled materials, climatologically sensitive siting and detailing, passive solar design, and natural ventilation.
As an extension of this environmental influence, the Stable & Utility Barns shelter and embrace a sun-filled courtyard, while spectacular Front Range views to the north are enjoyed from an upper-story lookout, which functions as a comfortable gathering place for riders. Meticulously hand-crafted hardware of an organic modern aesthetic elevates the visual expression of the barn to one of an elegant, yet utilitarian nature. The resulting facility will age gracefully as its spirit is defined by horse and rider alike.
