Home on Knoll
Boulder, Colorado
The “Home on Knoll” residence hugs a ridge west of Boulder. This home is a sanctuary that straddles two worlds: To the east are the flat plains of the Boulder-Denver Front Range. To the west is the dynamic high-country of the Colorado Rockies.
The owners’ desire to experience both drives a plan that opens and closes as you move east to west. The contrast of contraction and expansion is heightened by ribbed bow roofs that define the home’s interior organization. The entry is marked by a leaf-inspired armature that provides shade in the summer, protection in the winter, and welcomes the couple and visitors alike.
