Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center

Nederland, Colorado

The Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center will be the exciting formalization of this non-profit’s mission to provide hands-on education to people of all ages, fostering a life long appreciation of the environment and promoting an environmentally aware, responsible and ecologically sound community. Located at the gateway to over 3,000 acres of protected land, the state-of-the-art Nature Center will incorporate interactive sustainable systems, educational & research facilities, and places for playful learning into a coherent expression of nature’s abundance.

The planning of the Center encourages exploration of all levels of life occurring at the site. The principle elements include the main Observation House with integrated photovoltaic roof array, the Mound House sunk under an indigenous planted roof, and the Tower Observatory constructed of recycled timber.

As an interim solution to spur community integration and fundraising support for the Mud Lake facility, Wild Bear now occupies a commercial space in downtown Nederland, which has been extensively renovated to increase environmental operation & awareness. Barrett Studio also continues to support the cause through graphic design and involvement with the board. Please visit www.wildbear.org for more information or to donate to this worthy cause.
