- Architecture
Barrett Studio provides architectural services from Concept Design through Construction Administration, and including in-house project visualization through physical & digital modeling and rendering. While we excel at creating initial “BIG ideas!” or vision, our full service approach ensures that the vision is brought forth through technical detailing and ultimately construction. Our holistic design philosophy translates to meaningful designs in diverse locations and building types - from churches to homes, schools to nature centers. Whether it is our first or our fiftieth, each project we undertake results in a unique solution geared toward our client and the environment.
- Master Planning
Our Master Planning services range from land analysis, navigation of City/County approval and entitlement processes, community & stakeholder co-creative process, programming & phasing priorities, lot & amenity layout & rendering, and the creation of Architectural, Design, and Sustainability Standards & Guidelines. As an extension of our “listening to the land” philosophy, our Master Planning process always begins with a deep knowledge of the site itself, and explores how to inhabit a particular site in harmony with its existing natural and social systems.
- Interior Design
We offer Interior Design services for our Architectural projects, or as a stand-alone service. Generally, this entails furniture, fixtures, and equipment selection & specification. We have expertise in lighting, flooring, wallcoverings, window coverings, textiles & upholstery, furniture/cabinetry design & casegoods, artifact sourcing, and color theory. Our interiors staff are also trained architects, ensuring a complimentary transition between the “big picture” of your project’s architecture and the tactile experience we create inside.
- Visual Communication
Our experience in visual communication includes graphic design and layout for signage, print advertising, branding & logo development, and identity packages. We also provide effective solutions for visually communicating complex planning & architectural concepts to communities and municipalities. Ultimately, we strive to create visual experiences that are consistent, clean, and tell a story!
- Community Design Facilitation
We have developed a genuine enthusiasm for facilitating community process, integrating the opinions of many to result in a cohesive and meaningful whole. This includes a balance of functional needs and underlying motivations and aspirations: we recognize the need to establish clear programming that coincides with poetic underpinnings. This can be accomplished through user group charettes, periodic meetings for vision evolution sharing, or a full Integrated Design Team process with client involvement. We work with various communities to define a process tailored to their needs, resulting in an involved, informed constituency.
- Inspirational Speaking
Education is an integral part of our professional ethic, exemplified through our extensive experience speaking at both industry and consumer-oriented forums. Emphasizing the inspirational and philosophical underpinnings of our practice, our engagements include “Learning from Ecotopia,” “Tantric Architecture,” “Conscious Growth: Development with Values,” and “Ecomorphic Principles in Design.” We have spoken at AIA and APA conferences, as part of Colorado Architecture Month, at Boulder Green Building Guild forums, at TEDx, and at multiple national & regional sustainability conferences. We are also experienced guest lecturers and adjunct faculty at the University of Colorado.
- Sustainable Consulting
We excel at producing project specific feedback based on our expertise in passive sustainability design strategies. Our focus in passive strategies translates to value: these low-cost solutions significantly lessen environmental impact, and active systems can be layered on when necessary for compliance with stringent sustainability metrics. While we generally support a holistic sustainability approach, there can be measurable value in our input at any stage of a project, from conceptual land planning to interior finishes.
